With summer still blazing, Apple offered a useful Today at Apple Creative Projects video on Friday. It teaches you how to capture “Dramatic Summer Light” with your iPhone camera.

In the video, Apple Creative Pros Jahmyra and David bring in professional photographer Eddy Chen to explore great tips about snapping better shots and editing them to make the most of light.

Today at Apple video shows how to capture and edit dramatic summer light with an iPhone camera

Apple posted the new iPhone camera tutorial about capturing and editing summer light in your photography on its YouTube channel. Today at Apple shot the video in Mexico City.

Apple describes the free video session this way:

“Learn how to photograph and edit dramatic summer light on iPhone, with tips on using Portrait mode, Depth Control, and Night mode from photographer Eddy Chen and Creative Pros Jahmyra and David.”

The video, below, takes about 6 minutes to cover a variety of helpful ideas. See if you think the following topics might help make your photos pop (times included to help you cherry pick precise moments if preferred):

  • (1:26) Capture afternoon shadows better by adjusting Exposure.
  • (2:27) Accentuate shadows by pushing contrast.
  • (2.58) Take glowing portraits using golden-hour light.
  • (3:15) Find better focus and Depth Control in Portrait mode.
  • (4:07) Dramatize portraits by jacking up shadows and brightness.
  • (4:55) Use Night mode to add electricity to shot taken after dark.
  • (6:07) Bring out a subject by tweaking Contrast and Black Point.

And you can share your “before and after” photos on social media with #ShotoniPhone.
