This year’s AirPods Pro refresh is unlikely to pack health features like heart rate or body temperature monitoring.
Apple is testing both features internally, which “could arrive one day.” But that day is not coming this year.
Apple is testing health monitoring features for future AirPods
Rumors surrounding the second generation AirPods Pro claim the earbuds would feature heart rate and body temperature monitoring. However, in the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman claims that will not happen this year.
He says the Cupertino giant is exploring the option internally, but the technology is not ready to debut this year. Apple has even patented Ear ID for AirPods that could recognize the wearer and unlock your iPhone.
Temperature monitoring could reportedly debut on the Apple Watch Series 8 this year, though. The wearable won’t measure your exact temperature. Instead, it might be able to detect when you are running a fever and recommend you to contact your doctor.
AirPods Pro 2 should deliver better sound quality
AirPods Pro 2 should deliver better sound quality and even support lossless audio playback support. They will reportedly feature “self-adaptive” ANC to deliver a better listening experience. Seemingly, they will debut with a new design without the stems.
The updated charging case could dump the Lightning port in favor of USB-C. It should also house a built-in speaker for enhanced Find My functionality.
Battery life should also see an improvement, thanks to a new chip. The new earbuds should retail for the same $249 price tag as the existing model.
Current-gen AirPods have been on the market since October 2019. The long overdue refresh should arrive around the same time this year. Presumably, Apple could launch the earbuds alongside the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8.
Apple is not expected to sell the current gen AirPods Pro alongside the newer model.
