Continuity Camera in macOS Ventura upgrades video calls by bringing the iPhone’s high-res camera to the Mac. But a way to attach the handset to the laptop is necessary. That’s where Belkin’s iPhone Mount with MagSafe comes in.
With macOS launching soon, it’s time for the accessory to debut, too.
Turn iPhone into Mac webcam with this Belkin mount
MacBooks have front facing cameras but, well, they stink. And Mac mini has no camera at all. So Apple dreamed up Continuity Camera.
“With Continuity Camera, you can use iPhone as your webcam,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s SVP of software engineering, during WWDC22 in June. “It’s powered by the advanced capabilities of the iPhone camera system, letting you do things that were never before possible with a webcam.”
When Federighi was first demoing the feature to the world, he used Belkin’s iPhone Mount with MagSafe. And now the accessory is available to buy.
There are two options: one for MacBooks and another for Mac desktops and displays. The mount attaches to the computer, then the iPhone magnetically clings to the mount.
The handset can be rotated between portrait and landscape mode. Thanks to Continuity Camera, the Mac can automatically sense if the iPhone is nearby and available to serve as a webcam.
When detached, Belkin’s accessory doubles as a ring grip and kickstand.
Price & availability
Belkin iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Mac Notebooks is available now from the Apple store. It costs $29.95.
The version for Mac desktops and displays is “coming soon” according to Belkin. The same might be said of macOS Ventura with Continuity Camera – Apple says the OS update launches October 24.
